BCR SIDESTAND

Post by stivesvelo »

Hi,

Quick question, how long should the sidestand on the BCR be, as mine is fitted with the wrong one?

Haven't posted for some time since getting the 04 BCR a couple of years ago, which had lowered suspension but is now back to normal.

Bike is great but the sidestand being shorter (standard R1100S?) leaves it leaning over too far, I managed to get a slightly longer one (approx + 25mm) but this still leans over too much for my liking & could do with being another 20mm or so longer (I get this by placing a piece of wood on the ground under the foot of the sidestand).

I am thinking of a thickish & enlarged plate attached to the foot plate, or lengthening the standard one by the necessary amount.

I wonder if someone with a BCR could measure the length between the lower edge of the spring attachment pillars to the point where the stand meets the footplate, directly in line with the spring hanger at it's farthest point.

This is on a weld but have measured the standard one at approx 89-90mm.

I have a photo with notes but have no idea how to post it here & no time to work it out at the moment but can email it.

Thanks
Rob

There's three types of side stand. I don't expect you'll find a part number on there but if you need to buy a replacement here's the three part numbers:

The one fitted measures 265 from the centre of the bolt to the middle of where the leg meets the foot plate, probably the Sport version, not sure if it'll take a 300mm one though.

Now that I think about it the rear shock is at it's lowest setting (probably because it was leaning over so far with the first side stand) so can go higher, maybe that'll allow the longer stand to fit??

I think I'll experiment as it seems I can have the rear shock higher, so have cut out a slightly larger foot from some 20mm marine ply which I'll screw to the bottom of the foot on the existing stand & go back to the recommended base settings for the shocks (Ohlins) & go from there & when it's sort of right I can do something a bit more permanent.

Anyone else had this 'problem'?

Centre of the bolt to the middle of where the leg meets the foot plate's where I got 300mm. I have Wilbers on mine but same eye to eye measurement as OEM shock.

On the subject of Ohlins length adjustments, the lowest setting is comparable to the standard (non-Sport) shocks. The highest setting (where my bike is) is even taller than the sport shorts. Lots of range for adjustment just annoyingly fiddly to do!
