Okay, not the most thrilling of subjects but please let me continue.
I have and my bike for 18 months now, and have read various bits and pieces on fuel consumption where the consensus seems to be that the fuel light comes on about 120-130 miles?
Well, mine consistently comes on about 150- 160miles. Yesterday having travelled from Wales towards SE england using A and B roads plus the A419 and M4 it was 160 miles after which it took 13.5 litres brim full ( roughly 3 gallons, right). So my fuel consumption appears to be the good side of 50MPG which seems better than average. I ride enthusiastically using 3rd and 4 th a lot and 6th as an overdrive really.
I also find the performance of the bike at real road speeds ( i.e. not stupid but progressive, obeying urban limits etc) really, really good. It is very quick in the mid range with no discernible flat spot - which leads me wondering if her ECU has been re-flashed as improved fuel consumption seems to be one of the results of this process.
Interested to hear the thoughts of fellow owners

Sounds on a par with what mine returns, but there are many variables, what fuel grade, which map BMW last flashed, or do you have a piggy back module? Etc etc.
We have just returned from Le Mans, brisk steady pace with some town work D roads and fast N roads and also Autoroute my light came on at 154miles, filled up at 184miles and squeezed in approx 13.5 ltrs which returned a shade under 62mpg, not bad considering I have the sport bags and givi tank bag.
Check out my Fuelly sig for iirc 4500 miles of recorded mpg,
( this foot note is for Alan "bmwr1150rs" I know that mpg threads are very close to your heart

Normal riding should return about 10miles/ltr
But - remember, that your "mileage" depends upon the accuracy of your speedo (not "Speedos" - that's something completly different
)
If you have satnav - you should be able to tell how accurate your speedo is - at 30mph, 50, 70 etc.
It could be that your speedo is at the extreme of allowable calibration - +10%.
If you are doing a lot of 3rd/4th mileage, then I wouldn't expect you to be returning that good a consumption - given the increased pumping losses.
The other point - is....... Don't treat the "fuel light" as an absolute. It will vary from bike to bike, and even on your own bike - should be a guide only.
