Rough Weekend.

Had to cut short my annual bike trip for work reasons so was only able to join the lads for 3 out of 7 days.

The plan was to ride to Vosges in France in one hit then explore for a week. I decided to go to Vosges, have one relaxing day before heading back. A lot of miles, but I enjoy the challenge of it.

It all went wrong when one of our party hit a deep patch of gravel on a bend and ended up going off the road through a barbed wire fence. The wire rode up round his neck cutting open his windpipe and severing some of the less critical veins in his neck. Lots of blood though, was very worrying for a time.

French services were brilliant. Ambulance was there in 7 minutes. End result, he is in hospital in Nancy having had an op to put him back together and a tracheotemy.

Fortunately be will be okay. He was extremely lucky considering. He can't talk yet so is writing everything on a whiteboard. His Triumph is badly damaged. Don't know if it's a write off, but he is already planning something new, and planning a more successful trip next year.

So my trip ended up being 588 mile outbound, 1 day touring french hospitals, 588 miles back. Here's to a better trip next time.

Cheers for the thoughts. He needs a second op today go tidy up a few things so a few more days in a french hospital for him.

It's not all bad though. A couple of the attending nurses are very attractive.

Chatting them up with no understanding of french and only a whiteboard might prove challenging.

Bad luck indeed. But at least he's getting good care. My ex (the fat ba$tard, Popsky) had a skiing accident in France and needed loads of stitches in her face. They made a brilliant job and virtually impossible to see so I think from what I've heard of others experiences in France he's in good hands

I was very impressed with the hospital and the support he has received. The care so far has been top class.

They were very keen to get hold of his e111 though so his excellent care I presume will be back charged to the NHS.

Lol Dave, I don't mean to be picky but that does read as I'm a fat bas*ard, I'm ok with the latter but I do try to keep my weight in check

My m8 wrote off his Gixxer thou near Mende, punctured lung among other things, he's good now and still riding, the authorities were brill, 2 motorcycle Gendarmes just happened to be coming from the other direction and organised bike pickup and the sapeurs-pompiers cause they have a paramedic on board, and are free!!! Unlike ambulances.
When we visited the next day he was comfortable being looked after by some very pretty nurses, the hospital was immaculate and he'd just enjoyed a 3 course lunch with WINE!!!!!! Jammy bugger I said.
He had to get flown home so not all good, and his bike, well that turned up six months later with more damage and more miles than when he dumped it

Herb's pal - sounds like he dodged a bullet with that "off" and is probably better off in the French Hospital than in UK.

When he gets out - give him the nickname "Barbara"

Worrying at the time , I think i'll sign up for that FBoS course I've been threatening to do for ages now...
