Cant shake off the yearning for a BCR, and despite all that is written on here I am still not sure (seeing as I haven't being paying attention )
about the various specs etc.
Anyway was thinking of going to see this one, does it seem ok, what questions should I ask?. Presumably it should have Ohlins, anything else?

Have a search for BCR and Sandbar as the poster - it should take you to one of the threads on various specs and numbers.

They were never supplied with Ohlins - just "yellow-spring" shock at the back.

But - beware....... I tested an R1200s in 2007, and got back on my BCR afterwards - and thought it was broke!

The 1200 is smoother, faster accelleration, faster through the bends (I found).

You need to try one first, I think.

Yes, I imagine its nothing like an R12S , but ya gotta love em all the same,they just look so right, whereas the R12S is the ugly love child that only a parent could love. Well I can say that can't I

It looks bog standard with the original cat , possibly that's a good thing?
The 12 is definitely a better bike , and actually suits me better ergonomically , I prefer to have more than one bike though ,so have to stick with what I've got!

I had an R1100s and bought a 1200s to go with it thinking that I would have the best of both worlds. But, within a month the 1100s was up for sale. It is a great bike, but the 1200 was just quicker, lighter, better handling - only natural when you consider BMW brought it out as a development of the 1100. If you have never had an 1100 then it might scratch an itch but as I had had two over an 8 year period it was definitely a step forward for me.

The only thing that the 1100 does better is carry a pillion

Make sure you can climb aboard…my 04 is VERY tall

Those ones aren't as tall - never having ridden a 1200s I cannot comment on which is better but I love my BCR but would also love to have a 12s - see if you can get a test ride

The original Randy BCR makes a very nice garage ornament, as does an HP2 Sport

Sure enough the 12S has a better ride and performance but the BCR and 11S just have a certain elegance and style in their build that the 12 just can't touch,in my opinion.

Much has been said about the bikes over the years. Mostly people are in agreement.
Because I had the 1100 for a long time before I got the 1200 it was an exciting step up. I'm not so sure the other way around would be a good idea.
Having said that, they are bikes for 2 different purposes. A sunday blast is the 1200. A tour is the 1100.
I hope to be able to keep both bikes for the time being.
My 2 cents anyway.

I had my significantly modded 1100s for six years and it was fantastic. The first day I rode my 1200s it blew the 1100 away in every respect although I did miss the instant torque of the 11. I never rode a standard 11 but the guy that bought mine said that the difference between mine and standard was night and day. The original Mamola is a great looking bike and given its semi collectable status is worth having one if you have the room and are going to keep it but I think you'll be riding your 12 most of the time.
