My 07 1200S has sometimes cut out while starting.Turning the key to the left then back on and would cure it.However it cut off while on the move twice in the last few weeks.I pulled over, did the key mod and all was good but I'm thinking that there's a poor contact in the ignition lock because the screen goes blank everytime this happens.
Is there a cure for the lock or should it be replaced? If so is it a straight swop or does it need to be reprogrammed?
thanks

My 12S does the same thing.......whenever it wants to.......not all the time, just occasionally. I have not noticed if the dash goes blank as I am usually trying to just get it going again. Mine won't restart by hitting the button, I usually put it in neutral and then it will start.
When it first started to happen the cause was a faulty clutch switch. I could hear the switch "switching" but when hooked up to the GS911 I could see that the switch was not working all the time.
I traded my brake light switch for the clutch switch and that cured the problem.......for a while!
What I do know once the bike is stalling is re-sync the stepper motors with the GS911 tool.
Doing the re-sync brings the idle back to normal and no more stalling for a little while.
Hope that works for you.

Check your battery terminal connections are fastened tight, it's probably not the same fault but I had this on a GS. I was going up and over the brow of a hill at speed and it was enough for the loose connector to float and lose contact, effectively shutting the bike down.
Like I say it's probably a different fault to yours but worth checking for an easy fix or elimination purposes.
