Spare Keys - ?

This may be a silly question ...
When I bought my bike , R 1100 S , previous owner claimed to not have any spare keys .
Can any key cutting place make me a spare , or do I have to go the BMW route for a spare ?

Motorworks supply blank keys or look on ebay. Just get it cut at your local. Nothing special about the 11s key.

Wish the same had been the case for my 86 R80 ... different local key cutters cut me several keys which looked identical to the bikes own, but none of them would operate the ignition lock or steering lock. But all of them would operate the fuel cap and the seat lock.
Had to get one cut via BMW (after producing the V5 doc) theirs worked perfectly but to the naked eye I could see no difference at all, which is really odd

Thanks guys .
I'll have a go local .
I'm a bit of an old tart , tend to like having a spare taped on the bike some where .
When I was racing Off Road Bikes, I tended to zip tie the key on .
I've seen a fair few chaps scrabbling around in 2 inches of dust or mud looking for a key after thay've had a big get off ......
So , its one of those things I like to have handy .......

Me too, BMW will supply wallet keys. I have them for my K12GT, BCR, F8GS taped to an old business card inside my wallet.
The BCR one is the metal one in the middle of the two plastic newer EWS enabled ones.

Timpsons do them. Might have to order the blanks in. I got a couple of spares from them for my bike.

Not sure about your post code on the card Steve.
If you lose your wallet away from home you could be beaten back there and find an empty garage.
Just send a cheque if you find my security advice helpful!

It has crossed my mind, especially as I ride so slowly that most would be able to get home before me
May change it to just the phone number, or maybe the details of my dealers as they'd keep them for me if they were posted to them I guess

I'm renowned for losing my keys: Got some spare R1100 blanks on eBay for 99p each delivered and got them cut locally...
