New tyres just fitted, cold day, national speed limit roads with many roundabouts, torrential downpour, lots of shoppers not paying attention and in a hurry to get home, and finally in this toxic mix...

Diesel spill at two of the roundabouts. I could see it and smell it (still can). I'm home safely but not convinced the buttocks to unclench yet!

Sorry if that thought has spoiled anyone's appetite.

The smell of diesel on the road is enough to give any one a butt cramp ....

Even reading this , almost brings out a sweat & tingling in the fingers ...

That's quite a cocktail. Good to hear you made it home safely. I'm only 350 miles into R1100S ownership so far yet I've already discovered roadholding is one of its strong points.

Bloody diesel. Ban the fuel is what I say, clatter boxes, the roads no place for ,em Petrolheads only.

Isn't it strange that when it's dark and wet, and your on a bike, you can usually smell diesel fuel spillage in time to cope with it. It's almost as though the sense of smell is heightened. Years ago when I used to commute to work for a six o' clock start on a Suzuki 'Bloop', I always used to come across it, first thing, on 'right-handers'. I concluded that most of it is caused by buses that have been fueled up to the brim in their garages the night before. So gentlemen, I'd say, on dark, wet mornings, if your route is also a bus route; trust your nose and watch/sniff out for diesel on those right-handers/traffic roundabouts.

Only time I smelt the diesel before I hit it was on the Marble Arch roundabout coming off Park Lane onto Oxford Street.
I was on my London commuting RSA 250 Honda and ended up on my back side sliding around staring at the radiator of a Double decker bus which stopped less than a foot away from me.
Had a healthy respect for roundabouts ever since.

I hate it when you can smell diesel but not see it.
Some years ago on a CBR I could smell the stuff but not see a trail or spots on the road.
I did see it eventually as a 3M patch where the leaking vehicle had stopped on a major junction with a very busy A road by which time it was too late to change my line. I had no choice but to sail right over the junction without stopping..........not nice and very buttock clenching

Got to work and called the old bill and reported it. A ton of sand was spread over the road when I went home
