Very tricky one to value, though.

Only 500 made for homologation purposes - many of those found their way onto the track or rally stage.

Then they rusted badly when used as road cars.

It's hard to find figures on the number of surviving cars - but I reckon into low double figures now.

So... this all means that £40k is about the right price for a nice one - the most expensive example went for £65k, I believe.

You're probably right - but as you say, a limited market - so hard to pin a price on it. Think they were £15,000 when new? I had the normal 3-door version. Huge performance in its day.

Sadly, that doesn't let you filter down to the RS500 variant - so you just get total Cosworths remaining.

I just checked my Alfa 75 TSpark - less than 90 left of both variants!

I suspect that the DVLA (from whom this info comes) don't distinguish between the ordinary Cosworth, and the RS500.

"In practice, it was launched in July 1986 and 5545 were manufactured in total of which 500 were sent to Tickford for conversion to the Sierra 3 door RS500 Cosworth. The vehicles were manufactured in RHD (Right Hand Drive)only. The following number of vehicles were registered in the UK:

1985 10
1986 1064
1987 579
Total 1653"
