Ok I'm sorry, I can't help it, I enjoy it. it's sad I know but if I ride my bike for a couple of hours I would follow it by a couple of hours pledging

I've tried counselling but it hasn't worked so far... anyway my pipes are quite dull, how best I clean them?
Oh and I only do my bike my cars a right shit shed!
And I only do my bike, sorry!

I am the same, hours and hours of polishing and cleaning using every metal polish, wax, colour restorer, cleaner, known to mankind.
Autosol is probably the best on the pipes , if they are very bad use an acid based alloy wheel cleaner on a soaked cloth wrapped around the pipes beforehand.

The pipes on my bike I don't think were ever polished.
They were dark brown,
The following results were achieved using fine wire wool, solvol autosol, and stainless steel cleaner.
I don't know if it's the same as wheel cleaner, but it's magic stuff.

Yes I will get around to those.
Rest of the bike is mint, which shows them up even more.
It's always been a problem with BMW fastners.

Come on now less of that language or you may be banned - it's the same as mine - a faeces shed

ACF50 dabbed on the fasteners once they are derusted, works for me.
BTW my pipes are brown, and likely to stay that way, but I do like the shiney pipes above, well done.

Thanks one and all, yes very nice pipes, and good to know I'm not alone in the polishing department

The thing is, once you've done the hard work and got them clean and shiny, it takes minimal effort to keep them that way.
My Guzzi Griso had stainless pipes jusy like the 12S, and all they needed was 15 minutes work every few hundred miles to keep them looking new.

Yes Ned you're right, what I did (before I got bored of doing it

and still do occasionally) ... is tear a cloth into strips then wrap it tightly around the headers to cover them completely (obviously when they're cold

)
Then soak the cloth covered headers in WonderWheels and let them soak at least 15 minutes, longer if they're really bad.
It's marvellous at cleaning the brown crud off
Last time I did it they came up like this with some extra work with Solvol Autosol
