MOT Failure - play in the telelever ball joint #31422311409

Post by adrianw »

Hi,

My 99 R11S is in for its MOT today and it failed as there is 'movement' in the telelever ball joint:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=31&fg=42

Number 12 on that diagram.

I was a bit suprised, and I haven't seen the exact code it failed under yet.

I couldn't feel anything, but it would eventually manifest as a clicking when accelerating and braking.

Anyone else get failed for this?

Regards,

Adrian

Yeah happened to my R1200C.
Turned out that it just needed re-torquing

Ohhh.

Thank for that, I'll suggest it.

OEM says $140, so I'm guessing £75 in UK.

£30 from motorworks.

Hi,

Yes £90ish inc VAT for the part.

I mentioned that it might just need torqued up, the garage was sure the ball joint (#12) had play in it right up to the point where the took the cap (#14) of the joint and noticed the nut (#13) was loose.

Good call.

Thanks

Adrian
