I read recently about using a 70 section rear tyre as a means of increasing the rear ride height. Just wondering if anyone has tried it on their R1100S?

oooh, I'd have thought going from 55 to 70 would mean some serious hugger/swingarm clearance problems, No?

After-thought - 5.5 rim or other? 55 or 60 profile to start with? Let me get my ruler

Would a 70 fit on the rim without seriously deforming the profile?

isn't it simpler to just change the paralever torque arm?

Presumably as I am already running the Sport spec I can't get a shorter torque arm, short of making one (still an option). Just thought I'd ask the question to see if anyone had tried it.

I need a new rear tyre anyway, and could make for a useful bit of additional ride height.

I'd be very, very wary of doing this.

The higher profile tyre may take away a lot of the benefit of the rear ride height.

Personally, I ton't mess about with tyre sizes as you can bugger up the handling of your bike.

Bear in mind that, in addition to the considerations already mentioned, the larger aspect ratio will affect the gearing. It will also affect the suspension characteristics, front and rear, I reckon.

It might contact something before bottoming out too.

The tyre should fit the rim, but I'd think twice about doing it.

Maxton offer shocks with adjustable ride height facility, separate from the preload, I think?

Can't help asking why do you want to raise the rear the set up you have is plenty tall enough for most people

I'm 6 foot 2, so I can cope with a bit more ride height. I'm just looking to get the bike turning quicker, and trying to make it feel a little less super-tanker-ish. It feels very long and very low at the back. If it had conventional forks I'd be dropping the yokes down by 15mm...

A new shock is out of the question for me at the moment, but maybe next year...

In the meantime I'm thinking about the trackday I have booked in September, and making the bike as much fun as it can be.

We may be square or conservative, however I'd also shy from using a taller section tyre than standard because it would mean riding around/off the side slope on harder corners. Not much point in slightly speeding up the steering, if youre gonna have a moment in the best part of the next corner is there?

Suggest a far better way of getting the S to steer quickly is to go to the design point, = the steering angle set in the Telelever front wishbone...see our ingenious experimenters at http://bit.ly/1dCHbHc and if you need more, go to the source (Pelican Parts forum).

And we haven't talked about countersteering yet!

In all seriousness, the clearance with the swingarm looks a bit tight.

However, the Rockster wishbone sounds interesting. I guess I'll have to keep an eye on ebay.
