R1200S Front Brake

Post by saabowl »

Had spongy brakes so tried the lever tie back thing. Let the pressure off, lever felt much better..... Then discovered a small amount of what may have been fluid on the garage floor near the near side caliper. Couldn't find the source but there was signs that something had trickled down the fork leg. When I'm pumping the lever there is a quiet whooshing sound. Don't know what to do next. The facts are the brakes are ok now, no sign of a leak, but concerned by the whooshing sound and the small quantity of fluid on the floor. All advice gratefully recieved.

Hi
Don't worry about the whooshing sound. They all do that. I would for peace of mind have a good look at all the connections of the brake hoses. Check for tightness and for leaks. The hoses use the lower fork yoke as a connecting point. Also check the master cylinder end. Make sure the system is under pressure whilst checking. Do the tie back lever thing to create pressure. Use a torch when checking and clean dry paper towel to help indicate any leaks or weeping.
Good luck.

Thanks Gus. That's my Saturday morning sorted out right there. No feeling on earth like doubts about your brakes!

Thanks to Gus! Comprehensive inspection carried out and no leaks. Upon reflection could have been a careless splash when opening / closing the reservoir. Or perhaps overfilled by local garage?? Either way problem solved, still sunny so guess what....
