is the rear a 180 or a 170?

I have these on mine and find them fine

Yea. Probably. I'm just loath to bin a set of tyres with > 50% left in them, tread wise.

180 on a 5.5

Thanks. All new tyres seem nice. Best ones I ever had were those BT010 remould jobbies, Maxiss was it? Ran them down to slicks and they handled fine.

Everything since seems to go "off" well before the theoretical tyre life. And I don't mean track day off, I mean pleasant road riding "off".

Just money I suppose.

What Monsieur Parry said. :)

My Blackbird's handling like a pig at the moment, the previously sweet steering is now very notchy (head bearings are fine) and on looking at the front Roadsmart - which has done itro 8000 miles - its profile has become rather strange.

Very tempted by Steve's Conti Motions (mentioned in another thread) now as I need a pair of tyres. :)

I bought the 021s because of their dual compound feature. I'm not sure if this applies to the front as well as the back.

Living where I do and riding where I like, I probably spend more time leaning over than upright.

I'm wondering if wearing the sides of the front more than "expected in normal use" might have boojahed the handling.

Just talkin' though.

I had them on my K12GT a few times when pennies were tight and could not fault them, and never had a single "moment" on them so on that basis they get my thumbs up :)

Coolio. :)

I do so few miles these days (less than 5k per year) that I'd probably get 12 months out of a set - and seeing as they're 70 quid cheaper (online) than the PR3's for the Blackbird, it's got to be worth a shot. Roadsmarts are coming up at £240+!!!

Maybe I've been riding my sweet handling Laverda a bit too much, but the R1100S is displaying distinct, irritating oversteer.

At low speeds this feels like the bike is "set" into the bend, i.e. much effort to pull it out of the turn.

OK, I could live with that, but I'd rather not.

But at faster speeds and higher lean angles I've noticed an occasional "push" from the front end which has got to be resolved. (Additional laundry bills....)

I've read...

viewtopic.php t=7413&highlight=oversteer

Paralever bearings - OK, just changed, no play.
Telelever nut looks & feels tight and undisturbed.
Tyre pressures correct.

So I'm sort of staring at the front tyre. This is a Bridgestone 021. Plenty of tread on it, but the profile looks a bit weird and the edges of the treads are starting to "sit up" on the leading edge of the groove.

Bin it?

What does the panel think.

Sounds like your front tyre has developed a "triangular" profile.

Change for a new tyre, and possibly move away from BT021 - never heard much praise for them over the years.

I only ever used one set of 021's on my s and this is what I wrote on here after swopping them for Dunlop rs
Just for comparison I think an 021 rear lasted 5k miles but the front was badly shot (and was slow to turn).
So not quite the same for me.. _________________

From my own experience of Bridgestones (the old 010, 020 and 014's) it was often the case that the tyres were junk quite some time before reaching the wear bars. The fronts especially - the dual compound 010 and 020 used to do very strange things, and I ended up lobbing them before their legal life was up. Made the bike feel odd, that's for sure.

Like Steve, I've used the Conti Road Attacks on the 11S (an '04 BCR in my case) and they worked really nicely. :)
