Workshop stand - recommendations?

Post by Neilski »

Can anyone recommend a good workshop stand for the R1100S? Ideally I'd like a stand that allows maintenance or even removal of the swing-arm assembly (should it ever be necessary) so stand location points clear of rear wheel and swing-arm pivot bolt.

I have looked at the ABBA stand (but seems to use s/arm pivot) and also looking at ConStands but I believe this uses the rear axle.

I believe there is also a NWS stand, but can't find any details on it.

Any advice/recommendation would be appreciated.

You are correct, the ABBA uses the swingarm pivot. I have one, and I think they are excellent. Virtually everything you need to do can be done with an ABBA, Including lifting both wheels simultaneously in conjunction with a jack under the engine.

If you need to remove the swingarm you are probably best off with a bike lift that supports under the engine.

There are a couple of different types available, such as,

I think many people 'Heath Robinson' something to support the bike for the rare occasions that an abba id not up to the job.

I have a NWS stand. Don't use it anymore as the rear foot pegs has been removed. Yours for £50 collected.

Hi Tanneman

Thanks for the offer of your NWS stand - sounds like a bargain, but I'll pass as I already have an ABBA stand so just need the frame adapters. If I do need to get it 'off the ground' I think I will follow the 'big blocks of wood' approach or buy an under engine lift.

Thanks again.
