Exhausts, anyone gone quieter?

I've got a vandelinde y piece and cans on my bike and I've been very happy with it but I'm starting to think it's too loud.

I'm thinking of keeping the cans as they look good and putting the cat back on. Is there any reason not to do this? Is it better to leave the y piece and put the standard cans back on? Is there a difference in sound between those two options?

Not at the moment, I fear that if I do swap back I'll want the noise back soon but if I do swap back and like it the y piece will go up for sale.

You could always get a set of DB killers and then you could fit or remove depending on your mood :D

I'd be tempted to try just the Y piece if that's an option. I don't think the end cans will be even worth having if you put the cat back on. it'll be all quiet and tractory again.

It was my experience that the Y piece gave the biggest benefit, I once had to put the standard cans back on as my Remus Race cans split, and you know what? Bike was in some ways nicer for normal riding, big dollop of midrange back, plus neighbours didn't s..t themselves early on a Sunday morning when I fired her up.

IMO yes

Before I bought my bike nearly 10 yrs ago it had cat + lasers = quite noisy and not much else . I got the std end cans off the dealer and refitted + soon after fitted a y piece. Not too noisy although the internals can break up over time . The std end cans are very heavy and I've had a couple fracture , currently looking for a lightweight reasonably silenced oe replacement...

Std cans and a cat-elimator (Y-piece) is a good combination - I ran my first 1100S like this for some time. As Nigel rightly says, the original cans can break up over time - they don't particularly like the undamped firing pulses which reach them via the unrestricted link pipe.
