R1200S with the new liquid cooled engine

Given the chat during the Welsh Weekend about what people would swap their present bike for, lots seemed to like the idea of something along the styling lines of an HP2S but with a dual seat and panniers available as an accessory, all powered by the new engine.
So I wrote to BMW UK and asked them if theres a likelihood of it being made
"Dear Mr Parry
Thank you for your email dated April 24, 2013, outlining your suggestion for the design of new BMW motorbike.
I have forwarded your email to our Marketing Department and they will assess your suggestion in due course. Due to the large volume of requests that they receive, it is unfortunately not possible to respond to all of them. If your enquiry is something that they wish to pursue, a response will be sent to you in the next few days.

Well done lad, we may never know what is happening at the design section. BMW is very tight lipped about new projects.

Well the proof of concept development bike may be already on the roads!!! I'm not sure they've quite understood the "with luggage" requirement

Can't see it happening to be honest, Its not like they will be able to screw uber-power out of it as the block is not liquid cooled.
I would almost guarantee that the new heads are there for Emissions purposes, its a happy coincidence they can go fasterer.

Yes - That should do it!
But in all reality will it happen? The R1200S was never a particulalry strong seller when it was up against the K1200S - Which I plumped for at the time.
Still we can live in hope - Perhaps more likely to do an HP version with the LC motor in it?....and of course charge a load more for it!

RIchard, can we not just have that as a template and add our names to it. I think they might just take notice- coherent and to the point - thought about the diplomatic service? you're a natural - all that and no bad language

I take it you mean the 2nd world war the one that the Germans won what forward thinking we pay to set Germany on its feet again then a few years later they are running Europe rant over

I think that's the point... The boxer engine is great for touring/every day bikes(and my fav engine ever).... But having another bike in the range that costs as much as, and is slower/less sporty than the K1300S isn't going to sell big.
I think they'll do a new HP2 that not many will be able to afford....
It's ok saying the LC is sportier, so would suit an S. but the RT and G'S will have the same engine... Going on the 07/08 line up, an S isn't going to last long if they do make it. I still hope they do though!

Good points Steve, and ones which I feel have come up fairly regularly on thie forum with regard to the future of the 'S Boxer'. The problems the Boxer motor has (in terms of its appeal) are...
1. No recent racing pedigree (therefore not 'trendy' to the wealthy powerangers).
2. Poor image outside of the GS/RT family.
3. Not enough power.
Now, all these are completely irrelevant in the real world we fine folk live in but as we all also know - unless you can cancel out the above to the bike-buying man/woman in the street, they ain't going to buy the thing. It took a couple of actors riding round the world to
really get the GS under the skin of the UK biking scene but the S? I really can't see it happening. A real shame, but there you go.
It's also a shame as I still maintain the 1200S is one of the finest road bikes I've ridden in well over 30 years. PB once let me have spin on his for a whole afternoon around the Yorks Dales and even with my lack of riding talent (and being wary of riding a mate's pride & joy) I couldn't believe how easy it was to cover ground so damn quickly. It made my '04 BCR feel like a truck.

True. The 12S is a great bike. I'm sure LC version would live up to the old bike.
The 12S for me seemed very easy to ride (I'm no riding god in any way), which makes an excellent road bike, like all boxer engined bikes. The 12GT simply out does it massively on excitement factor (I can't imaqgine what the K1300S is like!) for me, even though its not as quite as easy to ride and probably gets from A to B no quicker overall.
I think another thing to consider, is when the 12S was launched, it was the only BMW sports bike (weren't the 11S more touring at the time?). It's was their go at a full on sports weapon when nothing else in the range was faster. I read they didn't have the pannier option until very late in the production of the first ones built, and that was only due to customer requests.... Now they have the K for sports touring, the RR for hooligans and a GS for the rest.
Still, like I say, I really hope they produce one and make it good!

There was several reasons that the R12S didn't sell so well,
1st they replaced the 11S with two bikes, the 12S for sporty types and the ST for tourey types with poor eyesight
And the 1200GS had just gone ballistic 'cos of Ewan and Charlie so they needed the production lines to concentrate on the big seller.
If they had made the 12ST a little easier ( ok, a LOT) easier on the eye they may have matched the 1100S sales success.
So a WC 1200S? not a snowflakes chance in hell I'm afraid
