injector cleaner

Might be a dumb question BUT does anyone run a injector cleaner through the bike or can you ?

Johnny - I used to every so often, but stopped doing so after taking the advice of a knowlegable friend. He was a fellow Caterham 7 owner who worked for BP/Mobil and was (probably still is) a petrochemicals engineer. Basically he designs automotive oil.

He stated that with modern fuels you don't need to run these cleaners. I did give me a technical reason but lost my attention after 5 seconds when it all started to go above my head.

You can but not necessary. Modern fuels and by that I mean the more expensive offerings with the additives will keep the fuel system and combustion chamber clean or try to. How well the engine runs will also depends on the mechanical condition of the engine and associated systems (ignition, fueling, lubrication, cooling). I do notice that the engine is bit smoother with Shell V-Power than Sainsbury budget happy juice.

I usually run Esso or Shell normal fuels. Both boast superior engine benefits and better mileage. Their super fuels, at up to 10p/l more, do more of the same. I avoid supermarket fuels. I also put in half a bottle of Reddex to a fresh fill up of fuel about every six months, both diesel and petrol. The benefit is most noticeable on the 2.0l petrol VW Passat tank; possibly because it rarely gets driven with enthusiasm as it is so thirsty. I believe it wont hurt and hopefully, benefits the cleansing of all the fuel system.
