R1150RT..... :(

Post by Steve1200S »

So, I dropped by my local BMW dealer on Sat to book the K1200GT in for a wheel bearing and clutch bleed.

I was having a chat with one of the guys and was let in on some info.

If some of you remember, I had an 1150RT that I loved. Loved the engine, loved the handling, loved the comfort, loved that it was cheap to buy, cheap to run and cheap to insure. It was all good apart from random stalling at cruising speeds on the motorway... Then having to wait 20 mins before it would start again...

After 5 trips to the dealer and them not managing to fix it, over a 9 month period, I traded my R1200S and the RT in for the K. I need a reliable (don't laugh Steve! My K's fine so far...) bike as it's used every day for work, so getting a modern bike was the best shot.

Turns out less than a day after picking the K up, there was a meeting with everyone to see if anyone had ideas. The first was "has it had the updated code plug (i think thats what he said)that it should have had when new? That use to cause that problem?"

Guess what? No. The new one fixed it.... And now someone else has the best bike I've ever owned instead of me, and it's even working for them! :(

this is the sort of reasoning that puts me off getting rid of the K :)

On a good note, it's never actually broken down, just various components decided to retire, so far nothing critical :)
