Post by StreetFlatTwin »

Right guys I know the easy answer but I don't want to chance it and plug it in incase it fries my Gopro!

I am going away and don't want to take my laptop with me just to charge the gopro......

So can I use an apple plug....one of these

Then plug the gopro USB lead into that???

I charge all my USB chargeable kit using Apple chargers - pretty sure the whole point of USB charging is that it's an industry standard thing, so any charger can be used to charge any device.

I think Steves right USB chargers put out 5volts so i think you will be ok i use a HTC USB charger on my playbook, sat nav, HTC phone, and blackberry phone, on the one charger, the playbook charger is slightly more powerfull and will charge a bit quicker
Does the GoPro charge from a usb on computer? if so it should be good on any USB charger
My bike shines when it rains!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No. Be careful. They all output different ampages (is that a word) and you can damage certain equipment. I think the stated current iis a max current the charger can produce, but it will only produce what the device demands, so while you should be ok, I have managed to destroy a keyboard charging from the ipad charger.

The ipad charger outputs 2.5 amps at 5v.
iPhone is 1 amp at 5 volts.
My blackberry is 2 amps at 5 volt.

Looks like the battery capacity of the gopro is slightly less than an iphone, so the apple charger should be fine.
If it was me I would use the apple charger, and have done in the past for various phones, tablets & kindles. Go for it.

Mick.

ps...........if it fries it........you aint seen me!!

Doesn't matter what amperage the charger can put out - the device will only draw what it needs.

What you need to check is that the USB socket is actually outputting 5v, the USB standard - it's possible some old proprietary chargers output a different voltage.

However, all Apple USB chargers are 5v compliant.
