Best (reasonable cost!) aftermarket exhaust?

Post by tomodan »

As title says, I am after an aftermarket exhaust for the S & am struggling a bit to find anything at all!

I have seen the Laser systems & they look great but are a bit pricey! (£1K for the boxercup 2 into 2 system, £800 ish for the de-cat & slipon can option)

I am also struggling to find anyone who sells anything else!

Anyone got any other suggestions or do I have to wait for a second hand system to come up?

Cheers

Hi,
IMHO best and most effective is to just replace the Cat box with a Y piece, Sounds a bit fruitier and does more than the replacement of the cans. You can always keep your eyes open for some s/h cans in the future.
Chinese made Y piece on E-Bay seems like a bargain and has good reports.

Regards Peter.

Keep an eye out on here and on eBay as second hand ones do come up. Doesn't make sense to me to spend a grand on an exhaust for these bikes now given how old they are.

I bought a vandelinde y piece and cans for £300 from James sherlocks on eBay which is amassive saving on New. Keep in mind what you want though, if It's just a bit more volume then a y piece will probably do what you want whereas my vandelinde makes it really loud and deep. I like it but I suspect many dont!

To be honest i'm not sure i would go with a set of can's i have a chinese Y piece on mine and standard can's it run's fine
However i do have a four inch cherry bomb in the garage that i may have a play with over the winter, but i don't think it will do anything but rust and make it to loud, i like it as it is it's quiet enough not to get unwanted attention loud enough to sound nice
My standard cans will need attacking with the welder soon the heat shields are lose and that will be done when i have a play with the cherry bomb it may run better as it will allow more expansion than the standard can's
My bike shines when it rains!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep an eye on ebay for a secondhand y-peice + end cans. They do come up from time to time, you just need to have the money ready to snap it up - thats how I got my last one - saw it bought it.

Just be warned some folk expect stupid money for these things like they're rocking horse poo or something. Don't get ripped off - there's always someone that needs the money bad enough to get a good price.

What Pedro said ................ +2.

''Doesn't make sense to me to spend a grand on an exhaust for these bikes now given how old they are'' said Tom.
I know where you are coming from, but as mine is a keeper the age of the bike doesn't figure in what I spend on it. As long as it improves the bike and I can afford it then game on! 8)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did'nt a German 'mag' do a group test of after-market zorsts and found that only one (Staintune?) offered a slight performance increase over the makers OE?

Not many [if any] after market exhaust will improve performance without many other mods and even then the increased performance will be minimal [you could have bought a faster bike with the money you will spend on after market bits]
You would do better at looking to lose weight removing the cat is a good start, take out the tool kit and carry a AA card instead, wear good fitting kit, sort the handling for less than a pair of cans you can get a pair of Hagon shoc's, sort the brakes new hoses and pads, make sure the callipers are working correctly not sticking, new brake fluid, these are the things that will make the bike ride better and therefore be quicker
an exhaust will just make it sound better the chinese Y piece alone will do this as for the lambda sensor i'm now running without as it was causing the bike to run slightly rich in this colder weather in the warmer weather it runs better with it conected [i'm using a cheap universal one it was about £15 and the bike runs better with this than the OEM £85 one]

Hope this helps and gives some food for thought Dai

Now that is good advise.

Has anyone tried 'coring' out the standard cans?
Should be easy enough.
