I've had a 99 r1100s since new, last year I fitted some "REMUS " end cans.

When the bike is hot there are now frequent back fires on a closed throttle. I think I might need a power commander or similar. Before I fork out for one does anyone have any other suggestions for likely solutions ?

Or anyone got a suitable powerchip for sale ?

I've got these too, and they do that too, together with little blue flames, and I like it I've not done anything to reduce the effect. The bike has done 112k like it and the boxes are still OK (I once managed to blow a centre exhaust section clean open on a Volvo - it was my dads, honest - when I tow started it after churning it over for 10 minutes and 'priming the bomb' with fuel - what a bang )

Some people say that it might be some air getting in one of the joints that can cause it so I should check them too

My Staintunes do the same trick - I only realised when I revved it in the dark while standing beside it.

Maybe you could get a chip set up to richen the mixture on the overrun!!

I also have a Remus full system and I get the same backfires on a closed throttle. On questioning the dealer he said it was characteristc and to enjoy the moment. What I do have though from the exhaust, I think, is a vibration on low revs and I just can not pin it down to anywhere in particular. Does anyone else with a Remus have this? I am due to have the 12k service and ask if they can pin it down cos it bugs me no end.

Any thoughts would be most welcome.

There are 2 different Remus systems - which one have you got? I've got the one with the collector box in the middle. Low speed vibes? Can you be any more specific? I've not noticed anything in particular? When I took the system off however, one of the rubbers in the lower frame for the collector box was knackered and split so I replaced it. If your rubber has gone and/or the metal peg of the collector box was touching the frame then that might cause some vibrations through the seat as it would be directly vibrating the frame - just a thought

This might not be the fault on anyone elses bike, but I tracked the over-run back fire to a poorly sealed joint twixt the downpipe and y-piece.
Fixed that with clear silicone sealant - yes, the stuff that fixes sanitary wear! That's a genuine Pip Higham ( GS1000 turbo drag racer) trick for gluing exhaust systems together. Been using it for years, much better that that grey cement stuff.

why use a bolt when glue will do???

The low revs vibe is as though something is not quite tight enough, but I fail to pin down exactly where it comes from (almost a rattle, inside?). I wondered if it was from the springs where the under-seat cans are? Mine also is the collector box type (I think) oval box under rear suspension - close to the front of the back wheel, if you know what I mean.
Keep the revs up and I don't hear a thing, trouble is I am on ticket No 3 . Thanks for your reply.

Low revs vibe, about 40 mph in top, can be the pivot bearing - it may need resetting.

you need to be v carefull with silicone as it has a habit of eating O2 sensors

I asked about power commander www.dynojet.com it comes out March 05 ive got Vanderlinde pipe bit rich low down so i will be trying one who knows might get bit more omph

Have a search back through the archives for Power Commander - Bob has plan in motion to get some base maps at his local dyno and we should all be able to move on from there regardless of what spec each machine is.
