Perhaps I'm getting weird in my old age but I'm fancying a Yamaha MT01, lazy 1700cc v twin in a sports bike chassis

Part of the reason I like my BCR is the lazy grunty engine, the MT01 seems to be more of the same

with the peak output increased to 89bhp, but still the MT-01's weight is a hefty 529lb dry.

R11s 98hp and 458 lb, I cant see it being much quicker than our beloved bikes.

Although the Yam has 25% more torque.

Met a guy at Grantham Honda a few weeks ago who rode in on an MT-01. Got chatting about it (he used to own a Blackbird) and whilst he said it was an 'ok' bike he wasn't that impressed with it. Reckoned it wasn't particularly quick - despite its apparent on-paper figueres - and the handling was nothing special either.

He bitterly regretted buying it, and was having one hell of a job trying to sell it on.

Had one a few years ago. With all the carbon extras and the Akros. Sounded awesome. Bags of character for a jap bike. I loved it. It had a fair lick of speed when you wanted and I thought it handled fine for its size.
So much torque i actually changed up to overtake!

Back in 2004/5 when they first came out I was invited to a special MT-01 night by Black Mountain Yamaha(Long Since Gone). Ive still got the promo T shirt and key ring somewhere, if I find em you can have em Steve.( T shirt might be a tad tight on you, no offence

) I rode it and actually quite liked it, I too remember finding the changing up to overtake novel, but it was stupid money then, bit of a bargain now, and that old Dragstar engine is pretty unburstable,. Sort of practical in an unpractical way, if that makes sense

I recall they did some specials, one based on Leather, the other Metal, but they were very like it/loath it.

Awesome looking thing, bet its got some epic engine braking under its belt with such a big V Twin.

You'd have to learn to back it in Steve!

Yeah and buy shares in Bridgestone, Michelin, Dunlop etc as that bike ridden aggressively will EAT rear tyres!!
