I have used ACF50 in the past from the aerosol can and it worked but was a right bloody goopy mess. It's for my R12S which is goig to be parked up over winter.

How do you guys apply it??? Straight out of the aerosol? Into something and then painted on using a brush? Using some form of plant mister??

Suggestions and top tips please!!!

Edit I used to use Diesel or parrafin when i was a lad on my pushbikes and used it for a good few years after
Used to have a big drum of Diesel in my mates garage we used to dump engine's in for about a week before stripping down for rebuilding

When did i become a slave to fashion using WD40, Plus gas, Duck oil, etc? i can't believe i have been using Duck oil as a penetrant and not diesel or parrafin
I seem to remember my dad using parrafin and engine oil 50/50 mix and using a garden sprayer to do the underside of his cars
Would a synthetic 0/?? engine oil not do the same job as ACF50

if its going to be `parked up over winter` ( presumably garaged) then I doubt you need ACF50 at all..?

ACF50 is a damn good corrosion ie. salt resistant, if yours is parked up don`t bother, just a good wash and polish and some WD40 on the moving bits will suffice.. ...save yourself the time and money...

For bare metals - stipple ACF 50 on with a brush.

For all other finishes - spray with Tectyl 506.

I used similar on my first GS1200Adv - left it on for around 2-3 yrs, and when I cleaned if off - there was a brand new bike underneath

Thanks guys but the reason I was thinking of ACF50 is believe it or not my last big run on the R12S was a couple of weeks ago and the weather was clear and sunny-but frozen and the roads had been salted

I don't want to wash and put away when there is a chance of some salt being tucked away somewhere slowly eating my bike all winter!!! Yeah is going to be garaged all winter!

ACF is meant to neutralise salt and corrosion so i think it would be a good idea to use this?

Wash the bike and give it a good hard rinse with a garden hose.

Then get a leaf-blower and dry it off, paying particular attention to the brake calipers.

If you are storing it for 4+ months - take the brake pads out not a huge job) as it will save the galvanic action between the bronze flecks in the pads and the steel of the discs. They can pit a disc really badly over the winter.

(Don't forget to refit them in Feb )

By all means use ACF50 on the bare metal, but FFS - don't waste it on paint! Just wipe down the paintwork with WD40 or similar.

Removing pads-good idea I had never thought of that!!

I'm more concerned about the engine with all the fins and nooks and crannies than any of the rest of the bike that's why I was thinking ACF!!

diesel is hydroscopic , it absorbs water and rusts everything ,
i know its a farmers fave to avoid buying penatrating oil , but give it a miss , two stroke oil is better if you must use something , but for the price , buy some wd or the likes , im using a new pwnatrating oil whos name i cant remember but it has a highly perfumed smell ,and its fantastic.
for winterproofing i tend to use spray on chain lube , or chain saw oil .. both clean off with white spirit.

Now i'm off to google baconlube [or nip down to the corner shop to ask about it ]

Think i'll stick with Duck oil it works for me
The ACF50 does seem good
If the bike's going to be off the road for some time how about one of the vacume[spelling] bags i realise you willl need some sort of silica gel to absorb any moisture in the bag but i am sure i have seen it it one of the pound shops sold for condensation on windows.

GT85 by any chance?

forgot to look today , i will look , its great stuff , very very perfumed smell , and sort of heavier on the fingers than wd it comes in a gallon tin and feels sliperyier [if thats a word].
