My 1100S has the BMW connector for a BMW battery charger fitted. Does anyone know what plug fits in it, it looks a lot smaller than the socket I had on my GS's, and I want to connect my optimate to it.
Thanks
Lloyd.

It's called a "hella plug"

Ebay search is probably your cheapest source.

The plug, under the RHS of the seat, on my 1100S is nothing like a hella plug, but the DVM shows it as always live.

I have ended up fitting a standard optimate flying lead direct the to battery however as these are cheap as chips on ebay

As far as I know - the Original fitment, is on the left hand side. Sounds like you have a bike that some previous owner has added his own socket?

Sure - for me, the optimate-type flying lead, cable-tied to a suitable strut, and connected direct to the battery is the best charging method, but at least a Hella plug/socket allows you to charge items off the bike --- easier.

(I'm thinking comms units, phones, ipods etc)

The photos werent clear so I went to Maplins today and bought the Hella connector. Its the correct one - thanks, although I was sure the one on my GS was bigger, must be an old-age thing!

I want to attach it to my Optimate, but need to know how to identify which of the optimate leads is positive. I dont have the lead that attaches to the battery, so cant check that way. I tried connecting to a multimeter but it doesnt react at all. can someone help please?
Thanks
Lloyd.

The positive conductor has a small ridge running the length of the insulation. The ridge is on the side - away from the opposite conductor.

The positive terminal on the hella plug/socket is - of course the centre pin, not the outer conductor.
