Sport version and centre stands
Hi guys, I'm new to this, I spoke to the guys at BVM who have told me that BMW do not do a centre stand for the sport version, this appears to be confirmed on realoem.com, it says not sport version, apparently there is a Touratech stand which will fit but I can't find one, does anyone know of a fix or modification of a different one which will fit? Apparently the one for the standard version doesn'tlift the wheels off the floor, can anyone help please??
Regards
Tom.

Welcome to the forum.
The later R1100S models were produced in the sport spec didn't have a centre stand like mine. I believe that the earlier models had the sport pack fitted as an optional extra. These did have a centre stand. What the difference is in centre stands I don't know. Some of the more wiser members on here can steer you in the right direction.

Firstly welcome aboard
Now down to your problem if you have a belly pan it's very unlikely you will get a centre stand to fit [some belly pans did allow fitment for a stand but not all]
If you have no belly pan you will be able to fit a centre stand but as you say it will not lift the wheels off the ground i have this problem myself standard R1100S[ok it's not very standard but was once] but with longer shoc and shorter torque arm fitted, however it works on the camber outside my house so checking oil levels etc is easy enough when i get it into the garage i put it on the centre stand both wheels on the deck [it's suprisingly stable] then put blocks under the stand, not perfect but it works, if you have a cat fitted [big box under swinging arm] the stand stop will be built in however like lots of us that have no cat you will have to make up stand stops [easy enough to do] don't let the stand bash against the torque arm
Or you could weld some box section onto the feet of the stand [not pretty]
You will have to decide if you want or need a centre stand or will a padock type stand do you better
EDIT some sport spec bikes were fitted with the longer torque arm i believe these bikes can be fitted with a centre stand with no problem
Cheers Dai

Hi Tom, centre stands for the Sport or the BCR models vary and won`t fit with a bellypan, if you want the stand for maintenance there are other options, there is a bmw lifter type stand on ebay at the moment but you still might need to use a piece of wood to lift wheels clear of floor, the other option is an ABBA stand. I and several other guys on here have one of these stands and they work well. With different adapter kits they will fit other bikes, useful if you have more than one bike. I leave the adapters on the bike permenantly and have painted them to match frame. If you put a scissor jack under the front of the engine both wheels can be removed if required.
Hope this helps, Al.

Usually a wider rear tyre (180), taller rear shock and shorter torque arm and clear indicator lenses I think ? Oh and another 20 BHPtapper54 wrote: Hi Tanneman, What is a Sport Version ? How can you tell ? mine is a 2003 is that one.

Hi guys yes your correct, the sport pack is different shocks front and rear which are yellow, a wider rear wheel, 5.5 instead of 5.0 that takes a 180 tyre and clear lenses, and the 20hp as you said. I want the stand to make the bike stable on my steep drive, its not safe on the side stand, the stanard stand will not clear the wheels of the ground, I think there is a fairly good chance that the F650GS single will fit, I'm going to check it tomorrow if I get time with one I've managed to borrow. Will let you know.

... mine (not a bcr, sports etc) has a taller centre stand.. looks like it has some box section welded on the bottom of the feet.
Sounds naff, but it's v. well done so either it's a pukka (but not widely known) part or it's been done by a professional.
I'll try and get a pic sometime.
Cheers.
