Boxercup 04 Vibrations
Hi i,m a newish member and enjoy this site alot ,have any more members attempted the valve adjustment technique posted on 3Mar 04 at www advrider .com and what results if any have you found.I had an 03 Boxercup previously which I exchanged for the 04 and the higher spec, what bothers me though is that after 5,500mls vibration is still a pain even after services yes I know its due another soon but just wondered if its may be worth trying?

You'll need 10,000 miles on the motor before it settles down,I ran mine on Optimax, put plugs in every 1500 miles, bought a TwinMax to keep the throttle bodies balanced, and and on a warm sunny day!!! rode a different bike!!!!,but thats all a long time ago!!! the tricks to buy e'm secondhand with at least 8-10,000 on let some other mug do the hard work.

Thanks for that. winger. your telling me what I guessed, its just my 03 was so much sweeter enginewise ,I do two or three trips abroad every year and didnt want to go through the pain barriers again! Still another service is due before then and I may have a go with the valves just to see, will let you know.

I use the 4 feeler gauge method when setting valve clearances. To be honest i dont really notice a difference in vibration before and after. It vibrates all the bloody time! The weather makes the biggest difference!I do however like to have the quietest valve train i can get, hence the method. Also getting the clearance on the valve train carrier as small as possible makes a difference.

Yup - the motor needs at least 10-15k on to start feeling reasonable. My first S had 1k on the clock and felt bloody awful - sold it with 20k and the difference was marked to say the least.
Reckon it's one of the reasons that the mags slag the S's motor off so badly - ok it'll never be a real smoothie but their test bikes usually have itro of 1-1.5k on. A recipe for disaster.
