That's as old as me

still puzzling over your snatchyness just off the stops mine used to do it but i can't remember what cured it i have an idea it may have been when i lost one of the plug covers and took the other one off it may be worth taking them off and soaking everything in WD40 and trying it, i know mine now runs far better in the wet than it used to

Soak it all in WD40 then put them back on, the leads are old and could be shorting under the cover's or under the tank if it works it will be ongoing, whatever you do don't use damp start it cracks over time and traps moisture in the only thing it's good for is coating speakers in when using them outside it works better on paper than it will on any form of plastic or sillicon
