Just returned from an afternoon in Wales trying out the new Maxton suspension. Wow  I thought the originals were a bit tired. :? Can this be the same bike?

The bike is so completely different its quite a job to analyse the feel of the ride.

It's much smoother and less bumpy and therefore more comfortable to ride.
Power delivery is more linear, particularly under hard acceleration.
The ride is more composed both in straight lines and through bends.
Bumps are absorbed and the machine holds the line.
Countersteering is easier and changing direction and line needs much less effort even when leant over in a bend.
The more positive ride inspires confidence through bends.

Maxton have set up the units to suit my body weight and style of riding. The ride height is standard as this is necessary for my short legs. I've also had the remote hydrolic preload fitted for touring with luggage.
The units themselves look very good quality and are significantly more substantial than the original units. The total cost was £1090.00 including fitting. Maxton have a very smart and compact workshop near Chester and are a small family firm. They are well known for building race suspension and a quality product. I understand that they will supply the units directly or fit them for the customer. Their website is at www.maxtonsuspension.co.uk

This is without doubt the most effective change I've made to the bike. I wish I'd done it years ago. I rode about 90 miles on Thursday afternoon across to Wrexham along some nice twisties. The pace of my riding was significantly quicker with the new units. I'm going to get used to riding the bike as it is set up, and then may consider some minor tweaks, but at the moment I'm not sure that it's going to be necessary.

Hi Clare

Can't promise the battery will have the same effect but at least it's one less thing to look at!!!.

Hi Chris,

Looking forward to getting the battery when Lloyd is up this way. Like you say one less thing to check, damn good job too when you think about the convenient location of the thing.

How is Rover?

Hi Clare
Looks like you are going to be out-gunning me and Tony when we do our first ride out together!
We'll have to arrange numerous coffee stops en route to let us catch up!! :(
