Personally, I did not find it witty. The bloke comes on here once a flood and generally posts comments that are provocative, which I have no problem with, but are often vindictive, which for me is not a 'quality' I would want to shout about. If he's seen so many bad things in his life, why not just keep them to himself. I'm sure that most of us are not interested, and to keep drip feeding us with the odd insinuation that he seen this and that is a bit like 'the boy who cried wolf'.

This thread reads like a snap shot of life itself. One person's opinion may not be the same as anothers. Some people are sympathetic, some are challenging ... but ultimately we are each entitled to our own opinion.

To ride or not to ride is a question that has been around since biking began and will continue to challenge people, whether it be in relation to thoughts on 'absent friends', environmental issues, monetary challenges, garage space, matrimonial harmony etc.

Personally, I sold my R1100S in May 2010 having only covered 1,069 from new in 5 years, but I enjoyed every mile and even the abuse from the local garage proprietor who said "You are an insult to motorcycling" when I took it in for its last MOT and discovered that I had only ridden 52 miles since the previous one!

Every day I look at web sites (biking ones before you ask or jump to conclusions, although I can recommend www.x..... perhaps another time) thinking about buying another bike whilst also considering the money that I would pay out and the likelihood that I would only ride another 52 miles in the next 12 months. But I do know that one day I will make that purchase and balance a judgement about the increased traffic on the roads, the cost of each mile and the extent of the smile on my face as each mile goes by.

Feel free to challenge my thoughts - but know that they are mine, and mine alone.

So, Andy, you do what you feel is right as only you know your own thoughts. Good luck.

I did find it difficult to read the original post as it seemed to be an ‘oh woe is me’ sob story to generate the sale of a motorcycle and assorted bits bought over a few years. I personally would never entertain a second hand motorcycle helmet, nor would I ever offer one for sale if I was ‘quitting’ as the perceived risks are huge.

I am also aware that I did previously make comment on the way the seller rode his motorcycle with a child as passenger, which I felt justified to do and still do. Maybe they touched his heart and brain more than he cares to admit? Her face in some of his adverts does indicate that she is not happy with his decision to quit and sell everything. I can see her riding bikes when she gets older.

I also feel that if you need to ‘quit’, just do it quietly and move on to whatever you may feel is good for you, bearing in mind that many activities that seem safe, can be dangerous and life threatening on occasion.
