Surprised at the uncomfortable ride on the R1100s, as they appear to be fairly forgiving - but............. riding comfort is not just about joint angles here and there - it is the combination, and if it isn't right for your body - there is only one thing that can be changed - the bike.
Unless you got one or borrowed one, with different bar arrangement - then it would be foolish to take a chance - nothing puts you off a bike more - than being in pain during and/or afterwards.

All pain & no gain
At 61yrs I suffer enough pain from back / knee / joint problems
comfort is the way forward
I may just give in now and sell the vfr off and forget bikes. 43yrs riding now
I'll decide in the new year

I spend more time on the classic car

A newer GS? The 1200 is very different to your previous 1150 model and as you know easier on the body.

Yes I've tried a GS1200 and a triumph 800 xc

Having been through the same dilemma a few years ago, as you are now, I would recommend you keep the VFR and all your gear.
I had classic cars at one time (2 x Daimler Darts, Jensen Interceptor and an S1 Bentley).
I spent thousands on them and drove them a lot, but after a few years realised that I still got more fun and more of a challenge riding my bikes.
So it makes sense to keep all your 2 wheel stuff as you will probably regret it if you sell it.
Just my thoughts.

your probably right, a £2k bike that will always be worth that.
I did 300 miles on the bike last year but 3000 miles in the classic car
il make a decision "next year"
A couple of years back I did quit riding and got rid of most of my gear, one year without a bike and I tripped over the minter of a vfr.
I decided to give it a go again
I've just sold my velosolex project bike on to a new owner.
I may just buy a cheap off roader and give up road riding completely

The 1100s has been on my 'list' for a while, but looks like it's not for me
To be fair I didn't ride one with the 'above the yoke' bar conversions

Happy new year all.
Looks like I'm going to buy a cheap trails bike, another cheap go to the shop classic moped
and move the viffer on.
I still haven't ridden an 1100s with the above the yoke conversion, but am off to see one tomorrow
that should make my mind up

Well now I've ridden an 1100s with an above the yokes bar conversion
much better for me
I didn't buy it as its a mates bike (not for sale)
I may reconsider my choice now
AFTER CONSIDERING THE OPTIONS I'VE ABANDONED MY SEARCH FOR A 1100S
I'M KEEPING THE VFR800
THANKS FOR ALL THE INFORMATION AND ADVICE
