I had the pleasure of working for Porsche a few years ago. One of the courses I did included a driving day in all of their models, including the (then new) 997. The professional driver would sit by you and talk you round the track, including a part where you would try to get the car to misbehave on the skid pan. All good fun - car handled very well and didn't lose it on the wet stuff. Had me thinking that I was a driving God, of course.
Then we did the same with all the electronic aids switched off. I have never had so much fun with my clothes on! I can remember crying with laughter as I span round & round in 80 grands worth of car, my hamfisted attempts at "correcting" making no difference whatsoever!
Might not have been so funny on a wet M1, though......

My neighbour has a mint metallic charcoal one with red leather, looks very pretty. He rates it highly reckons the handling is awesome

To be honest - I never looked beyond the performance/style/purchase price

Once you get to a certain age I've found insurance isn't an issue My 330Ci, which is no slouch at around 240hp ISTR, is only 230 quid or so fully comp and all 4 bikes are insured on one policy for about 250 quid

For insurance purposes, I'm at 'that age'.

Hence all the bikes cost me around 150 quid a year FC, K's car for both of us is £226 FC, and the MX5 is £180 FC, including business use.

I quoted on an S2000 recently - nearly 400 quid. I find that hard to swallow for a weekend toy.

Not many of these cars (S2000) manufactured, stonking engine, massive performance, soft top and interior a let down... BUT not many manufactured= A Collectors Car . Very low, understated, I like very much. Your wife, mistress and her Mum will love you for letting them having a shot in this motor

Yes,I had one on demo sometime in the 90s.Great drive with paddle gear change & a fantastic engine sound inside the car.I think it was about £60,000
and not really suitable for chauffeuring. I did think the 170mph & 0 to 60mph in 5.8 secs may have helped with timekeeping .Never did see many on the roads & only see them now at shows.

It costs me near enough the equivalent to that to insure My 1.0L shopping trolley, admittedly with no recent car history.

There are solid MX-5s out there.

I sold a totally solid, non welded Mk1 last summer for <700 quid. It had been rattlecanned in matt black but was in brilliant condition. I wish I had kept it, but I owned 4 cars at the time and the Mrs was giving me Gyp.

A well kept MK1 mx-5 will only go up in value.
