funnily enough I can recall saying the same .... although it started with "there's no way I'd ever own a BMW"

Then I bought a K100RS (well 5 of them from the mid 80's onwards to be precise) .... and changed to "there's no way I'd buy a boxer"

Then I bought my BoxerCup .... and my Uncles R80 .... and a couple of Funduros ... not forgetting the cars

Thing is every time I ride something Japanese nowadays I get bored. The ZX12R was stupendously fast but I got bored of it. The DRz400 was stupendously uncomfortable, but wonderfully able off road but I got bored of it. Perhaps I just don't "get" the raison d'etre of them anymore

Good news the snow has stopped here
Now the not so good

Front of house the guttering is down
Back of house the stink [soil] pipe is hanging off the wall joint to toilet looks to be holding
Garage i can no longer see the top of the flue on my woodburner, water is dripping out of my woodburner, roof is dripping,
Road outside house snowplough came down today now have 3' of snow against offside of car and front of bike, road was just usable by 4x4 but not now,
I hate this effin weather Dai

Not sure if I would go quite so far in condemning inline-japfours, but I will admit that if I was only allowed one bike - it would probably be the R1100s, or R1200s (prob the latter )

But, given the disposables and the garage space - what's not to like about a bonkers superbike ?

Read in a magazine, when I passed my test in 2004 - some good advice, which I have always adhered to...........

If you are riding in snow, you should stay out of 1st gear, use engine braking rather than wheel-braking, stay "loose" on the bike, avoiding large throttle inputs and keeping your visor clear........

If after 10 minutes, everything is going okay.......................


PARK THE BIKE UP! YOU ARE PLAYING THE ODDS!

Just stunned, that someone with so much to say is a school boy in biker terms. Respect.

In my police days there was an offence of "Driving without due consideration for other road users" I think riding a motorcycle in the snow fits this offence.

Really ? here, the RSA (road safety authority ) issues helpful advice at times like this..

•Watch out for vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists and allow extra space.
•Do not drive on the tail-lights of the vehicle in front (Target Fixing). This can give a false sense of security and you will be too close to be able to brake safely
