Did you see the MCN article on the bike shed this week? Over 4000 visitors! We can safely say there is a strong interest in the cafe racer/custom scene.

I had a CBX250-RS.

Great bike, but rare, expensive and fragile. I would live to buy another as a project but parts are hard to find.

I fancy a GN400 single as a cafe racer myself. Someone here once posted a picture of a really stunning one.

Yes I did. The custom link of bikes and skate boarding, bmx etc is bringing the younger people into bikes at present. A very good thing in my opinion, and its anything goes bike wise from 125,s up with Jap, German, Italian bikes being customised and importantly ridden. That meet/show looked cool, I,d sure like to attend the next one assuming it will be next spring.

Plans are to shed as much weight as I can think of. Looks? Open ended, but not cafe racer. Will have renthal low's or similar, fancy exhaust, small headlight. Just really stripped back. Been looking around for alternative tanks, but I have a shape in my head which doesn't actually exist! Maybe a basic shape ally tank with a glass fibre cover? The bike catalogued at 133kg so was already a pretty light bike.

Paid £350 and it came with a spare motor. But it is tatty chassis wise, although the motor doesn't sound too bad. 20k on the clock and there are a bunch of mot certs but I've not checked them out. Whatever. The motor will get the once over.

Nothing to show pics wise yet and I struggle to get photos from the i pad. Might have to set up a photobucket account?

Looking forwards to getting stuck in. Just have some work on the Beemer to finish off first.

A GN400 would make a good project I think.

It was just a random picture I found, but I agree.
There is something strangely appealing about it.
There was a comment earlier suggesting that a "proper" cafe racer is something that has been made in a shed.
Well yes, but the fact that this style of bike has become in vogue, can only be a good thing.
BTW I was talking to an old boy the other day who was part of the whole scene, who said the term cafe racer has been misinterpreted.
He said it was a derogatory term given by "real" road racers, to people who had the bikes, but just just hung out in cafe's looking the part.
I suppose today we'd call them poseurs.
