I used to live in Switzerland too, and although they have a lot of speed cameras now, the Police also combine them with a lot of manned speed traps. They know that they have a lot of foreign visitors and through traffic so they often just use the camera for locals but pull over speeding foreigners.

We had a business visitor come up from Italy once in some fast car or other who decided to ignore the speed cameras as well. Somewhere around Lucerne he was stopped by the police for exceeding the speed limit by a considerable margin. As he didn't have 1000 Swiss Francs on him, he was given the option of having his car impounded or accepting a lift to the nearest ATM.

As far as the sticker (vignette) goes, they will only insist on you buying one at border crossings where there is a motorway e.g. at Basle or Geneva. But, if you are going to use the motorways, and as winger says it's almost impossible to get anywhere without using them, then you do need to get one.

1000 Swiss Francs or 3 points,i'll take the former every time,i just wish i could do the same here.

My Dutch mate draws the line at painting the kerb stones,as they have a habit of doing in Switzerland.

Do you know, they have more machine guns per head in Switzerland than anyother country in world, just doesn't go with choc's and cuckoo clocks does it.

If your looking for a way into Switzerland, the one i've used the most is Vallorbe,it means you get a great thrash though the Jura on the way, don't forget either saturday or sunday,Petite st Bernard,it's like Box Hill and Devils Bridge just a better thrash up there, and the Swiss being the Swiss have a better class of bike to look at.
