i tried 34/40 today and it's possible it might be in the mind but it felt squirmy and i didn't like it. perhaps its because i've always ridden with high pressures but i think i'll keep them at 36/42

The top line of Ian posting is a sad fact of motorcycling life, your average biker is a muppet who doesn't know his arse from ear so it's best to give him the max pressure settings, and who gives a monkeys if it rags the middle of the tyre out,far better than haveing the pants sued of the company thinking that bikers might have the brains to alter tyres pressure depending their rideing requirements, and then blameing the tyre manafactures because they haven't.

winger i could`nt have said that any better myself.I have a mate who is 72 and still doing 10k a year on his 06 bonnie and loving it,and we always end up talking about all the guys we know who know nothing about the bikes they ride and even routine checks your too much to ask. I get asked to job silly jobs by these people ie chain adjustment clutch cable play and the like ,years ago people would strip and rebuild their bikes and think nothing of it. The modern leisure motorcyclist has taken over and a matching lid and leathers are more important than having a bike you know you can rag the ass off and nothing will fall off because you know you have spent TIME looking after it.
bought my ktm from my brother inlaw and rode it home and the tyres felt bad so when they cooled down the gauge said 15/18, i asked when he last checked them and he said my dealer does that at service :( :o

It's a very good point Ian - I think the problem lies with the fact that for many people their bikes are seen as an accessory, a consumer item which ranks along with their car/hifi which just gets filled with fuel/plugged in etc and left to its own devices. Of course one could argue that many modern bikes are feindishly complicated but could be answered by stating that they're now much more reliable/resilient and will work 'whatever'.

Still, it's the really simple stuff - chain adjustment (and overall care), oil checking, brake pads, head bearings etc etc - that folk wouldn't know one end of the bike from the other. Sure their bikes are immaculately clean but the chain is covered in rust and dragging its arse on the road. :D

I was going to attend the Waleshire bash in matching bike/leathers/gloves, but now I know that the tyre & chain police are going ............. I'll have to rethink my priorities

So - what should my rear tyre pressure be?

Al :?
If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......
Then plug me back in..........

See if that works .....

About 130 over 80? :D

As to tyre pressures I just chek mine once a month whether they need it or not. :)

As to chains - I use a Touring Scottoiler so a. have a chain which has lasted 43000 miles and b. the bugger never needs adjusting anyway. :)

Bring you matching gear and be happy in it - I'm just sad I'm not going to be at the w/e full stop.
