I'll be interested to see how you get on, i thought the fuelling and the transmission were crap, but it rode two up absolutely bang on.
I rode one and thought the fueliing was b0llox.

Today I got a lift back from a certain hampshire Suzuki pony-factory  on the back of the same K1200S, and I've got aches in places I never knew I had. Probably not helped by my rucksack, but it was hard work hanging on. No problem from wind blast, just under acceleration, as the grab rails are under your @rse.

I'm just a soft southerner though, it may be less of a problem for seasoned pillions.

I've tried the GS but, as with the R12S, it ain't for me...as Pierre said "each to his own".

As for Saturday's testride....

Absolutely AWESOME! Completely blown away - in the same way that I was with the R11S but the K is a little (?????) quicker, handles even when ridden by a t**t like me and Box on't Backs comment of "You are buying it, aren't you?" when we got back to Shipley sealed it. More details on PICS if I can download the picture from my PC - memory is disappearing with advancing years :-(. Bike is a gunmetal grey on an '05 plate with 12k on the clock. Being collected Thursday A.M before being taken up to the Lakes for the weekend.

See y'all at Hawes, I hope

Glad you did not buy the same colour as mine.

Pleased you enjoyed the test ride and Tracy.

Huw - can I have your informed opinion on the K1200 RS please?? I may be able to get my hands on one for low money and its a one owner, low miles, full BMW service history bike.
For those that are wondering, I still have the Sprint and love it loads but this just could be too good a price to miss and will accompany the Sprint and not replace it.
I just want to find out from an owners point of view what its like as I have ridden them in the past and found them ok.

Mmmmm? Dunno about "informed" but here are my thoughts:
The "old" K in-line 4 RS had the traditional BMW virtues, with a smooth, powerful motor but also the size/weight/bulk. Stoppie things coped with all that was asked of them (except to avoid the back of that BMW cage!!)

I suspect that my K12 had a difficult early life/running in period and may not have had a good servicing as the motor was quickly found to sound like washers-in-a-tin can but it still performed.

My drive shaft read-end (diff) only lasted 75K before giving out and needing replacement. As with the K12GT, age/time seems to weary the middle-aged "K"s and rattles/creaks/clangs appear but again it all carried on performing.

Before it was written off (see above!) I planned on keeping the RS another 18 months, by which time it would have had approx 200K on it, so I obviously had faith in the reliability of the bike.

End of drivel, I like big heavy bikes and I'd recommend the RS, if you have found a good condition example. However those who are dimensionally challenged may not find it to their tastes particularly if used for much of the time in urban situations involving relatively slow speeds/manouvering-it's too big/long/heavy for that! Also the motor is a hot one - it will kick in the fans very quickly as temps rise rapidly - good for drying gloves on but the fans are said to fail fairly regularly, expensive without a warranty).

Hope this is some use but P.M if you need/want anything else.
