PB - I'm no real fan of the later Exposure gear, like you say the amps aren't all that great. The early stuff made by the 'old' company (before Malaysian money took over) and designed by John Farlowe (ie pre-98) is brilliant and a match for anything Naim have ever built. It's sometimes on eBay but is becoming more and more rare - folk who've got the stuff are holding on to it these days.

These BBC monitors have been on ebay germany for months. You can see they are in great nick, but with a price tag like that, I think he'll be hanging onto them for quite sometime!

Too right - half the price and they'd be a good buy.

His active BC2's are very nice though (although still a tad pricey).

When the BBC designed the monitors they used cabinet resonances as part of the speaker's make-up, hence the thin-walled construction and relatively little internal damping. I think their view was that a controlled resonance, which could be beneficial to the speaker's performance if 'designed-in' was better than a small amount of un-controlled.

I've heard active BC2's at Maida Vale when we've done recordings there - they were using them as playback into the studio to let us hear what we'd done (saved cramming 40+ people into the control room!). They really are lovely old things, although I'd prefer the passive BC1's myself.

If you want to travel over to Ashford, Kent - the McArthur Glen (?) Retail Park have a BOSE store that, I think, sell 'returned' goods which have been refurbed, come with a full BOSE warranty with a price reduction. I think they also sell the older models that have just been phased out.
'Returned' means that they have posted off to people and they have returned to BOSE during the period of time that they can use it for free.
They also have rooms in there that you can listen to the stuff.

Wow, serious hi-fi babble

Having always suspected that hi-fi becomes an obsession very rapidly, I've tended to avoid looking into it in too much detail for fear of being hooked (constant hardware tweaks, late night re reading of hi-fi specific magazines, constant posting on hi-fi forums, 'patient' looks from wife etc. etc.)

Wait a minute.... sounds familiar....

Think my budget may limit my choice somewhat at the moment - its only a 2 bed flat but boy does that money fly out......

Might settle for clever ipod leads for now and look into 2nd hand stuff.

Ade - my Audio Note AX2's may be up for sale quite soon if a 'deal' I'm in the middle of making comes off. I'd probably be after around £230 for them although I'm not sure if they'd be small enough for you.

Dynaudio 40's give a good sound from small boxes. Though if you are used to listening to good bass then larger speakers are the way to go if you don't want to take the sub woofer route.

I think you can get carried away by all the stuff available....In my day (hey I'm only 56) everuy body wanted to own Linn stuff and Isobarics were the speakers to own...... I simply fell in love with the uncomplicated... very clean sound of the electrostatics..... Just cling film and 5000 volts... no baffles at all. Some don't like he clean sound wanting more bass... but I have had them for years and would not change them... definitely not tempted to buy the latest gismos.

Now where is my Motorworks catalogue...

And no... I cannot remember RAMS... tell me more?

I am being 'encouraged' to seek a replacement for my Arcam dual 75 based floor standing bi-wired system. I just dont get enough time to use it now. So recently I saw this: http://www.evesham.com/products/info.as ... 9EE703356C
I appreciate it is at the other end of the spectrum, but it will do most things and my hearing (and other senses) is not as sharp as it used to be.
