Just to cheer you pommies up...;-)
Here in the states with a the guns gun crime and gun related death are the highest in the world!Guns for sure don't make a society any more safer, freeer or more polite or whatever the propagandaminister might tell you.
Gatsos migh suck but you know what even sucks more.If you have ridicolously low speedlimits and the tax collectors can shoot you with their radargun anytime/anywhere and take your ride and "riding priviledges"/license and send you to jail for going ore than the breathtaking/mindnumbing speed of extremely/dangerously "fast" 100mph...;-)
Factor in that you still get picked up and cared for after a spill while 50 million americans have no health insurance and might even loose everything their worked for after a longer lay up the so called "nanny"-state doesn't seem so bad anymore after all...
The days of cheap gas are over, too,
so Cheer up!

The local radio station recently highlighted that the average policeman (or should that be police-person in these politicially correct days!) only make an average of nine arrests per year.

I know there is lot of paperwork, time spent in court, etc but only 9 ! Guess this proves the police are not yet on performance related pay, or that there are lot of lazy buggers hiding in the police station (coz you never see them on patrol).

I guess this also explains how they can recently deploy 500+ officers into Ipswich and crime elsewhere is not noticably affected.

I guess my brother could have got the term "performance related" wrong, but that's what he has been told.
Frankly it wouldn't surprise me if it is some bonus related system, similar to what the middle and upper tier of most management work on.
I hope that one day someone from up on high sees sense and puts more patrol cars on the road rather than relying on the latest high tech tracking systems that do nothing but ingender ill will against people who have a shit enough job as is.

Wicker,

I wouldn't listen to what radio's say. Scottish law is different to the rest of the United kingdom. For a start you can charge people on the street, which is done quite a lot, thus the need for arrest is taken away.

I am sure the local beat cop in Livingston will disagree with the local radio claims, even the cops in Central would.

Now camera vans, they really pi** me off big time. Those a**eholes park up just to get money.

As it is at the moment - Police pay is increased annually on an incremental scale as at the date of joining. I am not aware of performance related pay. I think it would be a very unweildy beast to implement as not every police officer is in front line policing and able to generate arrests.

Camera vans and cameras in general, it's highway robbery. We are being milked. Next we will be charged to use the roads and tracked every inch of the way, automatic speeding tickets just around the corner. What are they doing with the money anyway? are they even accountable? They don't even spend the full amount of the road tax on the roads, never mind fuel duty. Call me cynical/paranoid or both but these twats are paying for two wars and saving up for a third ! I often see people going around pubs collecting money for hospital equipment, baby units etc, things we already pay taxes for . You don't see anyone collecting for another missile or a bomb or a tank, despite what you read about body armour, they have enough money for invasions and occupations.
Now you have got me ranting, sorry chaps.

Sorry to be really pessimistic but do really think your local MP is going to worry about speed cameras there now a form of legitimate taxation with third party collecting it for them, a neighbour near you who works (slight twist of the word there) for a camera partnership.
what political party is going into an election with any of these on the agenda
immigration/taxation/council staff reductions
Labour know that most immigrants are not going to vote for a party that kicks them out,on taxation they need as much as they can get to pay for all the quangos they set up and as for councils there are some councils that employ 50% of the countys jobs are any of them going to vote to cut their own jobs I think not.
we have started a runnerway train with anyone who,s sensible has jumped on it and is going to get the only pensions worth having.
the conservatives have no hope of gaining power unless they do the same as Labour.
the only chance weve got to wake MP,s up is to all vote BNP.

Yeh great idea.

When BNP got in power we could do away with silly old democracy. Maybe we could make these immigrants wear some form of symbol so they were more easy to pick out, or even round them up and stick them in camps. When that was sorted out we could build up the army again and invade some smaller countries.

Stop reading the Daily Mail and get real :D.

Hey guys don't let this get into a political debate. We are all entitled to our views and are also entitled to vote for who we want.
I people want to vote for BNP then there is no problem with that if it makes all politicians open their eyes.

Camera vans are evil. Especially as they look like their selling double glazing untill you get too close and read 'essex safety camera partnership'. I think Essex has a justifiably bad reputation even amongst other countys safety camera partnerships. I checked out their web site and pretty much every road in essex will have a mobile safety camera on it at some point. My enjoyment of riding my bike has turned to paranoia. Like many people I have no problem with speed cameras in sensible places and firmly believe excess speed in the wrong enviroment is very dangerous but, there are roads where you can safely have a blast from time to time ( or use to ). My main argument with a lot of spped camera's, particularly mobile speed cameras is that they generally don't stop people speeding. They only 'catch' people speeding. This surely should not be the objective.
