Don't want to put a damper on things but I would really disagree with the drilling holes in the intake idea. The intake may not be perfect and could do with opening up, but it is at least optimsed. If you start drilling holes in the intake (without the aid of a dyno) you could end up with equally large holes and flat spots in your power and torque curves. It is possible to make an adjustable unit by drilling holes and then covering up different amounts between dyno runs to see the effects.
I fitted a ram air intake on an mx-5 I used for track days. You can't obviously tell any differnce on the dyno as it static, but you could definately tell the differnce from the seat of the pants. Although I think some of this was down to cooler air as well as the ram effect. It did produce some flat spots again though, but you can live with that for a track car.

Peter, did you have the san jose filter fitted at the lakes weekend? I seem to remember your bike being v quiet what with the laser end cans on. Mines is much louder since fitting the laser cans/K&n/Lennies/chip.almost too loud for me.

Yes, but optimised for what ? I suspect for quietness to get through noise regs coz it sure ain't airflowbmwonder wrote: but it is at least optimsed

Like I always said...it's all about rules and regulations...mostly noise.
Try running without the front 2 sections of the air intake and a K&N.It essentially costs nothing. To be honest there is very little ram air effect on the S....the intake is tucked away in the wrong place and has to go round too many corners. Also the airbox is way too small;look at the airbox on my Tuono(which is also too small)....the engine is less CC and the airbox is about twice as big as the S!
You'll know by the amount of noise it makes without the snorkel that it is breathing much better.
A tried and tested method for me...ran about 115'00 miles with it like that.
Bailey.

Small parcels around $100 are generally ok . I'm checking out what larger amts could cost!boxerpan wrote:nab 301 wrote:boxerpan wrote:quote]
Customs would as usual want you to touch your toes while they lined up to shaft you if the UK import folks are anything to go byHow good are they in Eire ?
Unwanted CATs usually struggle to fetch £20 on Ebay, that may be the place to look or stick a line on Bits Wanted/For Sale section below.
Getting a s/h cat to this side of the pond is usually a problem.

Hmm, thanks Peter, no, I still have the baffles intact, maybe the chip is the difference? it is very loud, louder than anybodys bike on the dales/lLakes trip.herrman wrote:Steve,
On the Dales/Lakes trip I had much the same set up as you I think,
Zach mid pipe, Laxer end cans with baffles, Lennies Induct and a std size KN filter. Not sure why it would seem quieter than yours unless you have removed the end baffles in the Lazers.
Peter.
