The fact it can't be easily identified by a breather plug on top suggests that someone has done a good job of disguising it!

Which I assume was the main reason that they ditched it in the first place. That someone thought it looked "ugly".

I'm finally going to do it this week but have two questions.First ,is the torque arm bolt really not reusable? I find it very strange,what if I put it back with a dab of Loctite?It would save me a 50km trip.
Second what oil should I use?Same as for the gearbox?

BMW changed the torque arm bolt type when they introduced the service interval.

I can't remember exactly but I think the original was an ovalised bolt designed for single use. I think they changed it to either a bolt with a plastic insert or a standard bolt and lock washer.

Either way, use the right part. They don't cost much and I am sure a good dealer will stick the parts in the post for you. Order a handful of o rings and sump crush washers at the same time.
