I will wait for the mirth.... but I loved my 400 superdream (I imagine I would hate it now)
I also think the old africa twin 750 I did 280,000 miles on was a stunning bike. It never broke down once and was good fun in the snow!
The old 350 three cyl kwaker was also fun (but i do wonder how the hell I am alive after the scrapes the 18year old me got into on it).

This was the only new bike I ever bought and is the only bike of them all that I should have kept
The very last of the bevel 900SS 's identical to that. 31 years ago and it still looks awesome.

Without doubt my Kawasaki 750 Turbo. Never got bored of the midrange rush and GPz1100-like acceleration, nor of the effing great blue flames it'd blow out of the Harris 4 into 1 on the overrun. Mind you, a spin on a mate's brand new Slingshot 750K showed just what an old barge the Kwacker was on the handling front.
An utterly standard 350 F1 YPVS Yam in red/white has to be a close second. What a wonderful noise they make
Mike.

I ran a Honda 250 RS for a few years and loved the little thing.
Tempted to find space to have a go at something like this...

For those little white roads on the map.

Sounds like a plan. I love riding my bobber around the lanes. The B roads and unclassified, sometimes with grass growing down the middle. At times i,m down to 10 - 15 mph and rarely above 50, open face lid and smell the air, been to places i,d never seen and not far from home, just roads going nowhere.
Do it and you won,t regret it.

That was my initiation into bikes.
My mate at the time had one and I had a ride on the back.
They were a really good bike.

I've heard tales of the ft500 engine going in. Is the xl500 the same crank cases etc?
Tbh, part of the appeal (in my head, at least!) is having to work it. It would be on wot a lot, even on the unclassified roads. Ever so light tho.
I imagine it wouldn't be too long tho before thoughts of a stump puller sound appalling.

The FT 500 - I VERY nearly bought one of those - thought it looked fantastic!! there was a poster from Bike magazine of one on it's back wheel. The rider had a black bell lid, tight fitting jeans and a pair of Converse - looked so like me (obviously not as good looking with the lid off!!)
