The largaider link bears out my own deductions. Doesn't say why they deleted it though.
As a wild guess.... If the thing leaked it would actually allow oil IN. This would lower the level without the owner knowing (no external clues). Dunno?
Another possible solution might be something akin to closed cell foam. This would lower the volume of oil but increase the height. And weigh next to nowt.
Another idea is to pump a small amount up to the top bush with each stroke of the suspension.
