We are taking the bike and riding down from Jed through chunnel and heading for Basque region of northern Spain via coastal region of SW France. Not having done Spain or its equally poor relation (on a bike) I would like some top tips. Would be quite happy to receive "avoid this" advice as well. I understand Portugal can be a bit hillbilly ish? Will I need to take protection? are you allowed to carry a tazer in Portugal? We are surprising friends (some surprise  ) who have booked a villa near Porto? I think.
...took this route a few weeks back...

...hometown --> Porto do Son, Spain...

...can't help it, but I don't like the French 'Autobahn'...
...but..., I love the coastal one in Spain, the twisty A8...

...beware of the speedlimits in Spain, a ticket for speeding is sky high !...

twisty 'Autobahn' ; the A8

...and while you are there, why not visit San Sebastian ; what a magnificent city that is !...

...and of course Santiago de Compostela is always worth a visit...

Are you sure this is France Ron?
Looks remarkably like Holland
(P.S. nice to see you Roloo)

A good Autoroute de France
The A75 from Clermont Ferrand to Montpellier is fantastic, over 2000m high in places with lots of twisties, immediately south of Clermont there is a series of sweepers, maybee 80 to 120 mph, makes the old ticker hum a bit. About half way along there is a set of bends on a rising section maybee 100 to 140 mph. Cross some stunning viaducts then cross the Viaduct de Millau (better still detour through Millau and enjoy the old road which now has mainly local traffic). The best section of Tarmac has to be just north of Lodeve, exit the tunnel then it's downhill through some very tight almost hairpins maybe 60 to 90 depends how brave you are
As the further south you go then the Med comes in to view! stunning! and I hate motorways! well not all motorways
Phil.

Hi Ron thanks for the input. We have taken note. Starting to get a buzz about our little adventure now. Something to look forward to through all the black clouds and rain sheets of the Scottish Borders

Thanks Phil for the French Connection
