Get a cheap bench grinder, £20, and a buffing wheel.

You just have to take the headers off......
Sounds clever.... if I can ask another dumb question which bit's the header?
That's the curly wurly pipe that goes from the sticky out cylinders to the crapalytic converter under the enginey bit.

HTH

Paul
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

I've found that works well to restor metalwork although it feels like you're doing most of the hardword.
I was in SPC the other day and some bloke asked for some Autosol. Blokey behind the parts said they didn't have any... till I pointed out there were 2 tubes in the cabinet about 4ft from his nose. Blokey flashes them against the barcode reader.... £2 a tube! Fecking heck - that MUST be wrong. Surely a BM agent would charge more than that for the box

Jason

ps.. and taking the headers off CAN lead to a fair amount of trouble :x Ask anyone who's had to remove corroded M6's from the under enginey bit area where the hot noisy tubey bits meet... or Julian with his wanked header stud

Pickling paste is commonly used in all stainless fabrication shops yes it does have some nasty properties but one would assume that your average R1100s rider is not a complete numpty, you would not go splashing it around like jizer or such.

When I did mine I had on a pair of regular marigolds and a pair of safety specs result = to 2/3 hours with abrasive as I said it wont get rid of scabby pipe syndrome you will only do this with abrasives

The front exhaust pipes from the cylinder heads to the cat or y piece behind the engine. Usually recognisable by the buildup of crud!
