Pilot Road 2

Just fitted a pair of these to my R1200s. Only done 10 miles on them and they feel great. I can't understand why people have said they feel awful to start with - maybe because it s a hot and sticky day but they seem to steer as quick as the powers and actually seem a bit more comfortable too. If they do the mileage people have been saying I'll be well chuffed.

Have also put a set of Pilot Road 2's on my R1200s today! Yes, they did feel very wierd to start with.....
Going to Germany next week and am expecting good things from them, especilally in the wet, cos it ALWAYS rains when we go on trips!
Had 2CT's on previous bike (Daytona) and they were fantastic, but worn out at 3,500 miles. On the R1200s The previous Conti Race Attacks were also done at 3,500 miles. No complaints.
Any more views?

I've a Pilot Road 2 CTC on the rear now and I'm very pleased with it. done 1500 or so miles now wet and dry and I've no complaints. No signs of squaring off yet unlike the previous Pilot sport which was well sh@gged by 3200 miles. BTW I'm still running a sport on the front as that seems to be wearing ok for the moment, 4700 miles and still in shape probaly half worn, might wear faster as it get near end of life.

I had the Pilot 2's fitted back in January and I did find them a bit weird to start with but love em now, the back has done 4500, not much left but on for about 5000 I reckon, the front only looks about half worn.

Mez 4's are the only tyre Ive had that can compete on mileage but not as confidence inspiring.

Road Attacks were shagged at 3k, both front and rear, Front more so!!!!!!

As mentioned I fitted Pilot Road 2's very recently. Just got back from four high speed days in Europe. Fast motorways, mountain switchback roads, all types of surfaces etc. Tyres are brilliant. I cannot fault them in any way Get them! (£20 Michelin cash back offer on at the moment as well).

Mine felt crap for about 100 miles then came right on. Rated them highly on the tdm and am now looking at trying some on teh gs and maybe the 12s

Michelin cash back: Just go on to the Michelin web-site. Click onto the 2-wheel section, and the offer link is shown there on that page. You get £20 of petrol vouchers (Tescos I think). You can see, and print off, the the cash back form. Be quick cos the offer finishes soon.

For anyone contemplating installing the now famous Michelin PR2CTs on your sporting ride, I was out riding alone yesterday and I pushed the limits of this tire to see what they could do.

As has been said on this forum before, these tires turn in nicely and are extremely well composed when leaned over. While the outer tread is semi soft, the rain grooves reduce the overall contact patch both front and rear compared to a Sports tyre so don’t expect the same ultimate traction. They do however perform excellently in the rain, even through standing water (amazing). In most situations these are very good road tires. In this case, “most situations” mean 7 or 8/10ths riding. Pushed further they will give way.

They appear to more readily spin when coming up out of a deep corner than say the PS2s, so I’m finding that I have watch my throttle hand more. The rear will lay some mean darkies and an R12S probably looks cool sliding and laying rubber but I fear a nasty high-side. That said, the rear tire is better than the front. Even when the rear does let go it’s progressive and somewhat benign, giving plenty of warning. The front tire, not so much. When it lets go it happens fast. I’ll try again with less air pressure, but I found it disconcerting and not in line with the progressive nature of the rear. Further, I’m finding that I’m using more of the front tread; all the way to the outer edge. This is unusual for a boxer and I haven’t quite figured out what’s going on but it may be down to the shape of the tire.

Wear so far is excellent, with over 1000 miles of back road abuse; they hardly look worn so economy should be good.

So, overall still a good buy even with the price premium. Just be careful if you fit them to a high torque bike and don’t expect miracles.

Same as me, on my 1100s I have still got maybe an inch each side of the rear to go, but the front is nearly half that??

My rear kicked out on a wet hairpin on Sunday. The bike felt so stable laid over going through the bend that I put on the gas and the rear slid out but gained traction again smoothly and progressively. It was a very greasy bend but still made me think a bit.

I hope I get more than 3500 out of my rears as i was getting that from Powers o the S, and as good as the Road 2s are - the Powers were better.

I have the Power 2cts on my Blade and they were rock solid down at Cadwell - not even a twitch.

Oh and as for you riding like wuss, I think a few of us remember your Wuss riding from Wales!! Some of us are still trying to catch up.

Your too kind, wrong, but too kind all the same

the picos = the picos de europa mountains, asturias/cantabria, northern spain. Get the ferry from Plymouth to Santander, turn right ride 50miles and your in riding heaven, very quiet roads, glorious twisties, fantastic views, cheap accommodation and very friendly locals.
Maybe we should have a trixter week there?
