I'm heading north on Wednesday 23rd, stopping in Perth on the first night, somewhere around Kinlochewe/Achnasheen on Thursday and Tobermory Friday/Saturday (Mishnish music festival).

Looking at your route for Thursday it looks like we may pass each other at some stage, so give us a wave if you spot a silver 06 K1200S two-up with luggage :D

If you haven't been to Scotland before, you're in for a real treat 8)

Shame your not going till monday.Me and a mate or two are doing a similar route starting Friday morning and getting home Sunday evening weather permitting. You'd have been more than welcome. Dossing down in a wigwam or two as there fairly cheap. If I was in a B&B I wouldn't want to get up if it's cold outside.
Have a good trip

The news says that petrol will start to run out on Friday 25th, but I'd guess there are a lot of people filling their tanks today :!:

I can either:-
Go as planned on the R1100s, as everything is fine.
Go somewhere else.
Take the FJR as it's 25l tank will give a much greater range.

Can anyone advise what the petrol availability is in Scotland?

I filled up okay on Friday, but there is likely to be a rabid panic once the general public gets wind of a possible shortage. Don't forget we are closer to the refinery up here.

I'll keep you posted.

Hi,

Got back this evening. Took a shortened route This is actual route taken from my downloaded track logs.

Petrol OK on Western coast. Filled up in Durness, and then had to hunt for petrol around Perth. First petrol station had nothing. Second only diesel. Third only petrol :)

I'll put pictures and details on the route tomorrow.

I haven't seen any signs of shortages yet. Possibly folk in Perth are stockpiling for their combine harvesters.
In hiatus from motorcycles.

Just back from a 4 night trip to Ullapool - weather and roads absolutely brilliant!

No rain, no bugs, no tourists - best time of the year.

Some of the petrol stations will run out, albeit for a day only - but that is no help to you, having to wait a day for some more fuel. Just because we had no problems with fuelstops - doesn't mean your trip will go smoothly.

Best of luck :D

I see the problem at Grangemouth is still running :(

Petrol was OK on the west coast, other than being around £1.19 a litre :!:

Here is the actual Route and pictures

Thanks for the suggestions to go north beyond Ullapool. The roads were empty, and the scenery fantastic.

Glad you enjoyed the trip - surprised I didn't see you somewhere along the road. 8 of us went up to Ullapool on Sunday, and went north to Tongue on Monday (Cracking road up through Kylesku), back down via the Struie and Dingwall - then down to Applecross/Skye on the Tuesday - returning to Edinburgh on the Wednesday.

6 BMW GS, one BMW K1200s and a Pan.

Can't wait to get back up there in a month.

A quickie on the fuel situation here (new thread anyone?)...

... filled up at Lamb & Gardner at Inchmichael (A90) no problem this morning. The CSA said they had a good stock.

Al - That was some trip with a great selection of roads. Hav'nt been over to Applecross in ages and it's been years since I was in Tongue. I took a run over to the Loch Oich watersports centre on Monday from Inverness. Went my usual scenic back road over to Drumnadrochit ie Beauly then over by Foxhole and up by the hill loch's before dropping down to Drum. I really enjoyed it and its fantastic biking in the Highlands in warn sunny weather with the hills full of snow. They have been skiing recently at Aviemore.

It's warming up a bit now so the season has really started in earnest.
