R1100S BMW black plastic pannier compatibility questions

Post by masha »

I recently bought a pair o R series panniers thinking they would fit my R1100S - right hand one does a treat, left hand one doesn't fit a all (because of the cut out for an R1150GS exhaust so it materialises

Does anyone know if these panniers will fit the R1200GS so I can advertise them accordingly. Also - do BMW sell just the rear section of these panniers for me to replace the GS fitting part and make a pair for my R1100S? if so how much should I expect to pay for one?

Hang on........... :?

When you say "it doesn't fit" - do you mean that there is a bigger cut-out of the LH pannier than is necessary?

As far as I know - all the "system" panniers fit the S, the only difference being that some are "fuller" than others.

I think the ones for the GS have bigger cut-outs than the R cos of the higher angle of the exhaust?

Does anyone know for sure - if there is an LH one with no cut-out (a la RH One) ?

I know that all system panniers have a cut out - even my set that fits the R1100S has a cut out compared to the RHS, but I assumed this was for the R1100/1150R series bikes. The ones I bought recenlty have the same lids, and the RightHand one is the same back, but the LeftHand one is Totally different on the rear and won't even hook on. Going back to the seller he confirmed they were last fitted to his R1150GS.

I could use these panniers if I can just change the rear part of the LeftHand pannier (ie I can use the lids, handles, locks, hinges fittings, and key/barrel) - its just being able to source the rear of the unit really new/used depending on the new price whether this is feasible (or whether to just sell the complete pair to someone with an 1150GS and start again?

I tried a pair of R1100GS ones on my S once and found that the front lug on the Left one was in a slightly different position. It also had the large cutout where the exhaust fits.

R Series Panniers

I have an R1100RT which has panniers with much less cut out that the GS ones. I know they will fit the S however with the standard lids they make the bike very wide.

Ask the guys at Motoworks near Huddersfield. I did get help from one the guys there on this point and they knew exactly which fitted what. It is formulaic so to speak.

The left hand panniers are different between models. But panniers for the 1100/1150 models will not fit the 1200GS

It's due to the left hand footrest hanger, which the pannier mounts onto being in a different position, not just the exhaust cut-outs.
