Hello, tech question from Norway. Bought a new 07 R1200S from my BMW dealership and love the bike. There is, however, a problem with the optional oil level sensor which seems to be difficult (for my local dealership at least

) to fix. The bike has had this anomaly from day one. According to the manual, one should get a status of the engine oil level when certain criteria are met (engine should be at operating temperature and so on), however the only status that ever has been displayed is: "---", which means...well, something is not right somewhere as the BMW technician stated. They have had the bike in twice during the summer, in an effort to identify the problem. They have ruled out the oil sensor it self, it does give the appropriate signals. So the problem lies probably somewhere in the mace of microprocessors on the bike. They update the software in the engine ECU, nope that did not do it either. Today they installed a brand new "display", the box that contains speedo and so on, but it did not cure it either.
Has anyone had a similar problem with the oil sensor on the R1200S, if so, what was the fix? I'm sure that anyone who can produce an answer has a legitimate claim towards BMW Norway, since you have saved them for a whole lot of additional hours fumbling around on my bike trying to determine what to try next.
Regards Thomas
