Was out riding with my father, he was on his GS me on the S.
In the afternoon we swapped bikes. I didn't think about fuel, when it did occur to me that the S must be desperately in need we pulled into the petrol station.
I checked the trip and it was at 195miles.
I had reset it the previous day when I filled up. Our ride hadn't been particularly sedate.
That figure sounds very good indeed! Whilst "slapping the arse" off my old S back to Aberdeen from Pitlochry during the weekend of the meet to collect the other-half, I recorded my worst ever fuel economy.......92 miles from full until fuel light came on! Pants.
89/92 is the usual miles to the light for me, much fun had in those miles can`t complain.

Hmmm. I've got the 22ltr tank in my '02 'S' and I'll happily fill up at 160 miles having had the fuel light on for 30-40 but I wouldn't like to push it much further. I might have to go out with a fuel can strapped to the back seat one day and see what it does.

The manual says it has a 18 litre tank, with 4 litres for reserve.
I get about 50mpg, which is around 11mpl (miles per litre). The reserve light comes on at around 115 miles (11 litres used).
Is it safe to assume I have 7 litres left?
Or would you recommend following f90x suggestion of taking a spare fuel can on a long trip?

you have 18 litres as standard but these guys have had their tanks custom converted to 22 litre ,you can do this on non abs bikes as they have the spare space where the abs unit would go.

The extra 4 liters make all the difference,means your not looking for fuel till you've used a full stock sized tank of fuel,(between 160 and 180 of hard rideing)and no i'm not trying to sell you an extended fuel tank cuz there ain't any for sale!!.

50MPG!!!!!!! Christ I must really ride hard or you must take it easy because the last tankfull that I used worked out at 35mpg. I do tend to wring it out in the low gears up to where it settles comfortably (100mph ish) which is part of the reason the Fireblade had to go. It's groove was 130mph. Oh and its got the high pressure injectors and the lazer pipes/y piece and dyno'd PC3 so that might have something to do with it too.
I like having the bigger tank. After my Euro trip on my CBR600 I like not having to gas up every 100 miles or so.
It means (the graph) at best he achieved almost 53mpg. But on the worst occasions he got just 35mpg.
If you ask me that looks like an average of 44mpg, so f90x 35mpg is poor.
Mine is standard, runs fine and gives good fuel economy (well compared to others here) but 50mpg still sucks, even though I do often take it flat-out in 1st, 2nd and 3rd (value my licence too much for any other gear!). Its carrying jack-shit with just me and the bike itself, compare it with any new reasonable deisel car and it makes it look pathetic.
