Surging... here we go again

Post by snavetrauts »

I have read previous threads on this.... but still need clarification.

In say 1st/2nd particularly at low speeds... if you have to suddenly shut off (or indeeed open up) its like putting the breaks on , it really dies then you open up and it picks up but quite violently.

I know there is a lot of engine breaking naturally but is the only cure for this a PC to correct the std mapping.????

The answer to that is I do not know..... I saw previous threads from Madman where he was discussing various colour cat codes and must admit never really understood where they might be other than in the motronic unit somewher.

Yes it has always done it.... and because of my previous experience with the F650... I assumed it was a symptom of fuel injection rather than anything else..

Its done 13000 approx now and I am driving it more aggressively and therefore tht is why it is more noticable

Any ideas??

cheers

Sorry I may have misled you.. by my heading. I am not getting the surging that the previous threads have mentioned... i.e. hunting on the feathered throttle. In fact I am getting the opposite.... in 1st or second... where the revs are relatively high, When I shut off it's like throwing out an anchor... her in doors on the back bangs into me.... when i then throttle back on... it snaps on quite violently.... again hid flies backwards. in higher gears and lower revs the mapping is very smooth and any transitions fast or slow are handled very smoothly???? :?:

This is normal behavior when you combine massive jugs and low gears, but really most bikes are hard to control in 1st at mid to higher rpm's. The only solution is to be reeeeally smooth. :)

If you leave your cold start lever open, you will reduce the engine braking a bit at high revs by letting the engine suck some air through.
Just close it when you stop for normal tick-over.
I do this when its very cold or wet to prevent rear lock-ups on down shifts.
